The other day a dog showed up at my house. Charlie liked him and they played, I noticed he was wearing a collar, so I thought he was from the neighborhood. After him being around for a few hours I started wondering and called the number on the collar. The people were very friendly and told me that he was an escape artist.

My sense was that Charlie and him would love to go for a walk together, so I arranged a day for a meet and went to their house to pick him up. They told me that he could only be walked on a leash because of his running away.

I asked them if they would be ok with me letting him off, and they were all good with anything I wanted to do.

Joe and Charlie on the walk

So off we went, Charlie, Joe and I. This is where those little feather touches of awareness are so much more potent than thoughts. I was so wrapped up in the conversation I have had with Joe’s owners that I did not listen to the awareness that said ’not yet’ when I let him go. I went well at first, and again there was a moment that had the awareness to clip him back on (again ignored by me, since it was going so well) and boom gone he was. All the calling, going after him and pulling energy did not work.

After a while, I had to go back to them with the news that I had lost their dog. They were quite relaxed about it. Clearly, he had done this many times.

For me, this was a moment of choice. I could be really upset and make myself wrong, or I could use a tool. The moment he ran off I used the tool: ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’ for everything that came up.

Shit ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

My fault ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

What will they think about me? ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

Will he be all right? ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

He has done this too many times, he is used to it. ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

There are cars, he could get hit ‘Interesting point of view, I have this point of view’

You get the idea! Would you like to explore how this tool could change the way you are dealing with the things that are not working in the relationship with your animal?
